Most of the English speakers that I know here live with host families that provide food for them. The two people in Ozurgeti that I do know who live in their own apartments are vegetarians.
In the summer, there are all kinds of fruits and vegetables in the market. Stuff I don’t even recognize or know. But the winter is a different story. My host family spends most of the summer canning and pickling all the vegetables they grow. But my friends don’t really have that option.
Last week, I went over to watch a movie with a friend, Marta, after dance lessons. We hadn’t eaten dinner so she fixed us a meal. She made three types of open faced sandwiches. One made of Georgian cheese, another with ricotta cheese and the third with a homemade lentil spread. All were topped with lettuce and radish slices.
I thought they were gourmet looking for what she had available.
Also very yummy.
