And Then Came Mari

So this camp has been a rough experience. The first batch of kids were the poster children for apathy, we have been plagued by rain and the internet is intermittent at best. The second week we dwindled to just four kids. How do you run a camp with just four kids? And one of those kids was the main antagonist from the first two weeks, Nika.

But on the fourth week, we were saved. First, staying from the first week was Lexi, a Russian/ Georgian of 14. She is very amiable and simply loves being alive and talked to. (She also has since learned to play a wicked hand of Rummy.) She was joined by Guga, 16 and Mari, 15. Guga is a chill even keeled kid. He can have a good time, but doesn’t look to get into shenanigans like NIka. Mari is a smiley, high-energy kid that seems to love life. She fit right in and doesn’t take shit from Nika.

I must say they might have single-handedly saved me from going crazy in my last week of camp.

A broom is drearily sweeping
up the broken pieces of yesterday’s life.
Somewhere a Queen is weeping,
somewhere a King has no wife.
And the wind it cries Mary
